Gurtaj Indian started serving curries and breads to the people of Northern Beaches in June 1996. At Gurtaj you are served the finest of Northern Indian cuisine. We take pride in serving our curries and breads using great quality ingredients at reasonable prices. One of the reasons our business lasted so long is that it has been owned and managed by the same family from day one always going the extra mile to deliver a great hospitality experience.

The staff was so nice, he gave my son and his cabin from Stewart House, a free meal for them playing with his daughter at a park. The food was amazing aswell! His favourite was the Butter Chicken and Rice. The decoration and atmosphere was amazing and so relaxing. Thank you Gurtaj Indian Restraunt.

We began our meal with a basket of **Papadoms**, served with 5pcs. The papadoms were crispy and light, serving as a perfect start to our meal. Next, we had the **Samosas**, which were generously stuffed with spiced potatoes and peas. The outer crust was golden and flaky, while the filling was flavorful, with a nice hint of heat.For the main course, we indulged in a classic Indian curries—**Butter Chicken**. The Butter Chicken was rich and velvety, with tender chicken pieces swimming in a creamy, tomato-based sauce that had just the right hint of sweetness. To complement the curries, we ordered both **Garlic Naan** and **Cheese Naan**. The Garlic Naan was soft and fluffy, with a delightful garlic aroma that paired beautifully with the curries. The Cheese Naan was indulgent and gooey, adding a comforting touch to the meal. We also tried the **Beef Biryani**, a standout dish that came loaded with tender pieces of beef, fragrant basmati rice, and a blend of whole spices that infused every bite with flavor. The biryani was served with a side of cooling raita, which balanced the spices perfectly. To wash it all down, we had the **Mango Lassi**, a refreshing yogurt-based drink that was thick, creamy, and bursting with fresh mango flavor. It was a perfect accompaniment to the spicier dishes and helped cleanse the palate.For dessert, we couldn't resist the **Gulab Jamun**. These warm, syrup-soaked dumplings were soft and sweet, providing a delightful end to the meal. They were the perfect blend of texture and flavor, melting in the mouth with each bite. Every dish was prepared with care, and the variety of flavors on offer catered to both spice lovers and those who prefer milder tastes. If you’re looking for a satisfying Indian meal, this place is definitely worth a visit.

Authentic and delicious home made style food. We tried vegetarian chana dal and paneer tikka masala. Both were very tasty. Although paneer wasn’t fried but it was still very tasty. Cucumber raita was lovely, without too much spices. Naan was a bit crunchy and not soft but all good with us as we prefer crunchy rotis and naans. Extra star for the kind and courteous service by staff.

This is by far the most succulent delicious Indian I've ever tasted in my 53 years on earth.Chicken melts in your mouth,Mango chicken,butter chicken and chicken tikka are just faultless.Super friendly staff and an amazing vibe in there colourful modern restaurant.So glad we tried Gurtaj on our latest visit to Sydney.My mouth is watering writing this post.Pointless going anywhere else this is the 1 Indian restaurant you must visit.Free pappadums too

We were here a few years ago and I rated highly. However, perhaps I ordered badly, but the Madrza curry was more like a Butter Chicken like. It wasn't what I was use to. And the samosas we rubbery and likely microwaved. The service is wonderful but doesn't make up for the quality of the food, or the constant road noise. Unfortunately won't be going back.

Thoroughly enjoyed a meal here last night for our son’s 23rd birthday. The food was delicious, especially the chicken tikka, hyderabadi and the chicken makhni. Nice decor and ambience too. But the best thing was the service from Liam. What a character! He really made the night so fun.

Dining in at Gurtaj is like having dinner with family. Their malai kofta is the reason I chose to move to Collaroy 15 years ago (I'm serious, I wanted to live in a place that could provide good takeaway when I worked long hours). Home delivery is the same, it's like a visit from an old friend. Caring service, amazing food, amazing people and I'm proud to know these guys as long as I have. I highly recommend everything about them and I hope you enjoy their kind, caring and personalised service that urged me to write this review for no other reason.

When travelling the restaurants of the northern beaches, it can be difficult to find a waiter to truly assist you in the journey of your meal. That was until we met Liam. Liam was the kindest most truly amazing server that I have ever experienced. This can be seen through when Liam first came to our table to begin serving us, the young gentlemen began with introducing himself and then began to take our orders. This heavily effected our view on Liam as I have never met someone more beautiful and amazing in the ways of serving and preparing meals. In conclusion, Liam is an amazing server who used his skills to heavily assist us in the ordering and preparation of our lunchtime meal. Thank you Liam!

A fantastic Indian cuisine!For anyone around Northen Beaches who is happy to try Indian foodour family highly recommends this restaurant. We have enjoyed Gur Taj's food over the years. Due to our little girls, we have done mostly weekly regular take-away including the COVID period and always found very nice. Our two girls love Gur Taj’s Mango Chicken, and it is not too sweet and well-balanced. They also love cheese nan and/or cheese nan with garlic. Really delicious! My wife is a big fan of hot Madras with beef or lamb. If you have any normal sour Greek yogurt in fridge, I strongly suggest you give it a go hot Madras together. It is very pleasant with rice basmati, plain naan or garlic naan. If you are into red wine, please try with Gur Taj Tandoori Chicken. This marinated chicken with ginger, garlic and lemon juice is beautiful with rose, pinot noir or Mellot, and my favourite entrée at the start. Highly recommended , very nice and generous serving. You won’t be disappointed!

Authentic Indian food. After staying in Aus for some time and really craving for some hot food. This is the place you are looking for.The service is good. The waiter is friendly and always checks on you.The food is great. Can't tell which is better because most of it is great.We went around 6pm and it was still empty, but after half an hour people kept coming in until it was full. Guess it is quite a popular restaurant.Overall it is a good place if you are looking for Indian or some hot food.

GurTaj did a last minute catering order for myself, by last minute I mean 5pm the day before!Sumit the manager I spoke too was incredibly helpful an d easy going.I had ordered for the business as we had issues with the kitchen that prevented us from food service.I ordered a butter chicken, lamb Rogan Josh and Vegie Mix curry with a side of rice and garlic Nann bread for 50 people.The price was fair and the food was incredible! The butter chicken was the crowd winner and the garlic nann was high sought after.I highly recommend GurTaj as the choice of Indian for their exceptional hospitality and incredible food! A lovely experience. Firstly as always, the environment. The place really brings a sense of India to the mind, from walking in and instantly smelling lovely sensations I knew I was in for a good dinner. One thing that makes a restaurant good is the happiness of its staff, this place definitely has happy staff. Special mention to our waiter Liam for being so attentive and making sure that the experience was perfect. Now the food, well I have never had a better samosa, I had the veggie ones and they were out of this world! I got butter chicken for the main and it was perfect, not too sweet, not to spicy. The serving size was good enough for two as long as you add some rice. The prices are very fair as well. Thanks so much guys.

The food and service from Sumit and his friendly team at Gurtaj are always excellent. Love the Malia Kofta and Butter Chicken. A true local institution that have been in the area for many years. Without any fanfare, Sumit was also providing meals free of charge to people in need during the COVID pandemic.
